Physical Science

Classes

PHYS 111: Physical Science I

Credits 3

This course is intended for learners in non-science programs and offers experiences that allow them to understand the physical aspects of the environment. The procedure takes an interdisciplinary approach to the laws and principles of physics applied to matter and energy. The Learner develops an understanding of basic scientific concepts, gain familiarity with scientific materials, equipment, laboratory techniques, and procedures. The course gives to the principles of physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology, and astronomy.

Prerequisites

Any 3 credit hours of MATH. LIBR 150 may be taken concurrently.

Prerequisite Courses

PHYS 112: Physical Science II

Credits 4

This course is designed as a general survey of the contributions of physics and chemistry to man’s understanding of basic physical science concepts and will expose you to the basic scientific vocabulary of physics and chemistry. In laboratory, Learners will develop skill with equipment, laboratory techniques and procedures, and lab investigative skills to solve physics and chemistry-related problems. The lab emphasis will be on the application of basic physical science principles while studying and solving problems as well as the operation of basic lab equipment. Learners will need to have had sufficient math skills to support their understanding associated principles illustrated through mathematical structures.

Prerequisites

PHYS 175: Earth Science

Credits 4

This course explores our planet and how it works. It surveys basic concepts of shifting tectonic plates, deep geologic time, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and the nature of rocks and minerals. Laboratory exercises will introduce students to the methods of geoscience and will supplement the lectures. Non-science majors will benefit from this course.
